The measurement of colour is important as a quality control parameter in many industries, especially food and drink. The bench-top spectrophotometer is not particularly suitable for colour measurement because expensive integrating spheres are required.
On the other hand, the foc (fibre optic coupled) instrument excels at this type of measurement because it can scan samples so quickly.

This latter accessory is particularly useful for measuring the reflectance spectra of powders.
